Easy Linux

OK,long back since a post is made by me.Meanwhile,kc has done some kewl posts. In this post, I am gonna tell you people how to easily install Ubuntu Linux with Windows on your PC.The reason behind me taking up the dual boot is because this is the first reason why people prefer to use windows for its easy use.And why only Ubuntu? It’s because of the reason that ubuntu has a very good community forums with good sort of howto’s at http://Ubuntuforums.org and also it’s probably the only linux which ships the distro for free to your homes.
So coming to the installation, Ubuntu recommends a minimum free space of 2GB for its installation. But you people spend more than 10GB for windows including for its software and everything. So I think you won’t mind spending atleast a 5GB for Ubuntu. So now first what you do is take the freely shipped CD from their site and then boot with it.It’s a live CD which gives the preview of linux without installing it on your hard drive. Now as you have boot into it you will see an icon of instalationl on the desktop.Click it and the installation process starts. It’s a 6 step process.First it asks for the installation language and some other steps which you can easily answer.First part comes when it asks for your name and password.Don’t forget the password because this is the only password with which you can do any installation of new software, change the settings etc and cannot be retrieved if forgot. So select a proper password. Then the step of Layout comes. It has some options one of which is use the largest continuous space which i easier and user friendly. But if you want the installation not be too automatic you can prefer custom layout. There create an ext3 partition of 5GB.Also create a swap partition of size atleast 512MB and larger than your RAM size.Swap is like pagefile in windows and not exactly the pagefile. Then click Next. Now it shows all your partitions on right and some column by name mountpoint on left. Now,for ext3 partition put mount point as / for your other windows drives as /media/.Now click next and the last step of your installation which is the real installation starts.Meanwhile you can surf net through the firefox browser in live CD or you can check out features of Ubuntu ,thanks to the LIVE CD.After installation is complete, reboot your PC and you will be given with a menu to select Ubuntu or windows and you can go for your preference.
